Habitat Build
I was so fortunate to have an amazing opportunity to volunteer in my first Habitat For Humanity Build. I strongly reccomend it to anybody who has the opportunity to do it. A fellow Student Firefighter, Jeremy, volunteered with me and I believe I speak for both of us when I say we had an absolute blast!
Our task was landscaping along the north side of the house. We were responsible for laying some SOD. If you are familiar with Portland, you know that laying SOD in the middle of March could be a little messy.
We were head to toe in mud.
But I felt so good!
Dive in and make a difference.

Portland Stair Climb
HELLO WORLD!
Here is the first of a pile of information I want to put out to my readers. I have been given the most amazing opportunity to run the Portland Stair Climb in September, 2012 to benefit Cystic Fibrosis! I hope to educate you on the effects of this disease as well as let you know that you can help!
I will be rallying supporters for my great challenge. I need you to rally behind me and help by contributing to the fund! I will be doing some fund raisers between now and then. It would be great if you would participate.
You can also donate at any time. I will post a link to my page. The way that this works is the money will be donated in your name for my team. It is a competition not only for the best climb time but also to see who can raise the most money. I am very serious about this!
I will be posting new information as I learn more. I will have my link after April 2, 2012. And I will post it as soon as possible.
The first fundraiser I have going is a raffle for an acclectic Fire T-shirt Quilt. The quilt is in the works. And I am currently accepting shirt donations. So if you are affliliated and would like your department represented on this quilt, comment and we will get in touch! Also if you are interested in buying tickets.
This is going to be a really cool piece of fire service memorabilia. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of it!

Taxes done. Finals week upon us. Spring Break within reach.
Hey friends, family and followers.
It has been awhile since my last post. I apologize. I know I am supposed to be doing this on a regular basis….. but life happens. Although I am fairly certain nobody was losing any sleep at night simply because I wasn’t blogging.
So… What has been going on with me? Not a whole lot. I got pretty sick for a little over a week. Then had a wisdom tooth pulled, which knocked me on my face. I have been going to cheer practice. Which is super exciting! LOL! NOT.
I have been doing some self reflection on life and where I am headed with mine. I again and thinking I need to change the direction of this blog. Which has become more of a life documentation than anything else. With that direction, I want to add in some self reflection on life and the things I am doing with it. I hope to rally some support for some excellent causes. Check out my next post for info on my first one.
An instructor said in a lecture fall term, “You have to live each day like the guy they want to hire.” Anybody who knows me, and for those of you that want to, I am on the long road to becoming a full time firefigher. It is extremely competitive and requires great integrity and drive. That is the me Iwant to be. And so I begin the journey of becoming that person. (sorry Sydnay– I stole this from the title of your blog.. But your theme is so awesome. I mean it as a compliment more than anything! <3)
I hope to make this a pin board of vents, memoirs, upcoming events, and also inspirationl things I find along the way.
Here is to a great life. Living each day to make the next one better for those around us and virtually ourselves.
Cheers,
Danni
Unexpected turn in the road!
Hey world!
Its me again. I am sorry for the sudden side road that this blog is about to take…… But I think it will be exciting! Not to worry. Purpose driven life will also be a topic here’s but will have to share the spotlight with some dallas of my adventures as a groom at a racetrack (horses). as an act of utter desperation, I used some contacts to land the job. More to come! And I promise to get back on track with purpose driven life .

Purpose Driven Life~~~~~~ Day One
Verse to remember: Everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him. Colossians 1:16
One of the hardest things for us, as humans, to realise is that the world beyond us is so much bigger. I remember being 16 and being diagnosed with an orthopedic problem. After several opinions of what to do for my problem, I finally visited Shriner’s Hospital. I was to have surgery on my knee.. There was a possibility that the tumors that were causing weakness and pain in my leg were cancerous and that my involvement in a very active lifestyle could be vastly altered. I was messing around on the crutches that I was given for post-operation mobility when a mother of another patient entered the room. I, of course, was very concerned and preoccupied with my own surgery and was caught off guard when she asked which one of us was the patient. That broke the trance that had overcome me and I started to look around. I met Jared while waiting for my procedure to start. He was 12 and was in a motor chair with a halo. He had been in the hospital for 8 months. His only opportunity to leave was to watch the Christmas parade.
Sometimes it takes little slaps in the face for us to realise how much goes on outside of our very small corner of the world. This chapter really spoke to me. It reminded me that our purpose in this life is not to serve ourselves. It is to serve the lord through the service of others. So in finding our purpose in this life why would we start with serving ourselves? We must start with serving others.
The question to consider, “In spite of all teh advertising around me, how can I remind myself that life is really about living for God, not myself?”
Having read this chapter yesterday and thinking about it last night and this morning, I think that my answer is to emmerse myself into the service of others. Is that not our purpose in life? It is also very humbling and there is so much to be learned through the service of others. Also I intend to make it a point to know what is happening with people who are close to me and the people who are close to them.

Dear friends,
I have finally chosen a topic for this blog. I am very excited. Thus big is going to become a documentation of a 40 day life change. I will use this blog as a review of the book The Purpose Driven Life , by Rick Warren.
I will discuss each chapter as I read it. Point out some points that inspired me. Also discuss the”point to ponder” at the end of each chapter.
Don’t worry. I will still share random things. If this attracts any traffic I will start a second page.
Hugs
Danni
Cute!
